Recognition of the Reservoir as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument
SLRC first advocated for an Historic-Cultural Monument designation for the reservoir over 25 years ago. That designation was made by the Los AngelesDepartment of Cultural Affairs in 1989. However, its designation was never publicly advertised.
With LADWP's permission, SLRC has commissioned the creation of an official bronze plaque—the same that marks most other such monuments—and is currently working with city agencies to determine an appropriate site for the new plaque, shown below.
SLRC has also worked with CD13, CD4, and the LA Department of Transportation to create street signs that similarly recognize the property's designated status. As of August 2016, LADOT has reported that signs have been designed and are now being fabricated for installation.
